Drug Use Common Among Those in the Medical Profession

When many people think about drug addicts, they think about people who are struggling to keep up with everyday life, who are homeless, who commit other crimes in order to fulfill their addiction. What many people do not think about in association with drug addicts is doctors. Transparency in the medical profession is being hard-fought by the establishment, but more studies are revealing that drug use is a major problem.

While some studies report that as many as 1 in 10 doctors have drug addiction or drug use problems, these numbers are not easily replicated or verifiable. Regardless, in a profession that is known for looking out for its own, unlawful prescription drug use is a major problem. Other health care professionals such as nurses and technicians are also included in the study

Drug use, even prescription fraud, can have serious consequences that can result in years in prison, a suspended medical license, civil suits and more.
