Multiple Shootings Across Town

In a series of 12 different shootings last night, 2 people were killed and 12 were wounded. The victims ranged from ages 16 to 34. Some of the injuries were mild enough that the victims refused treatment; others were left in critical condition. It is unknown whether any of the shootings were related; some occurred simultaneously in different parts of town.

Jamonie Richards, 18, was a resident of the Oakland neighborhood on the South Side. He was shot around midnight and was pronounced dead when medical help arrived.

On the West Side, 32-year old Lajuan Webb was the victim of a fatal drive by shooting. A 32-year old woman was also injured in that incident.

No arrests have been made in connection with any of the shootings.

These shootings occurred despite Chicago's notoriously strict gun laws. The city-wide ban on guns has recently been declared unconstitutional, but Chicago unanimously passed a law that prohibits guns anywhere except inside the home. Gun stores remain illegal.
