16 Year Old Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison
Kawanis Trotter, who is now 16, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a crime that he committed when he was 14. He was charged with felony
murder, felony armed robbery and armed burglary.
Two years ago, Trotter and his cousin, Roddee Daniel, who was at the time 15, broke into the home of Capri Walker in order to steal from her home. Daniel beat Walker to death with a baseball bat while Trotter watched. Both teenage boys then stole her Xbox and other goods.
Daniel was sentenced to life in prison, in part thanks to testimony from Trotter. Trotter agreed to testify against his cousin as part of a plea bargain. He does have the possibility for parole, although many feel it is a harsh sentence for a minor and believe he should have been treated as a juvenile. Others feel that he should have been charged with accessory to murder, as he did not technically wield a weapon against Walker.
