Mother Is Prime Suspect in Murder of 4 Year Old Daughter
A 4 year old girl was found dead yesterday afternoon, and police believe that her mother murdered her and then attempted to kill herself.
The mother, whose name has not been released, is 43. She was found by her sister with a gun shot wound that police think was self-inflicted. She is still hospitalized and has not been charged with any crime, but she is under guard.
The woman and her daughter had recently moved from New York, where the mother was engaged in a custody dispute. She may have also had other legal issues. According to neighbors, she was fearful that she was being chased. The daughter was described as polite and shy.
The town home in which the mother and daughter had been staying belonged to the 4 year old's grandmother. She was sometimes seen with the granddaughter throughout the neighborhood.
