Two Mothers Arrested for Misdemeanor Child Abandonment
Chicago police were called to a home at around 11:00 p.m. last night after the Department of Children and Family Services was told that there were multiple children left alone and that they were making noise.
When law enforcement officers arrived at the home on South Essex Avenue, they discovered seven children, belonging to two different women, at the home alone without adult supervision. The children ranged in age from 1 to 11 years old. The children had been left home alone for a few hours.
The two mothers, aged 25 and 31, were arrested when they returned to their home around 1:00 a.m. They are being charged with misdemeanor child abandonment.
Two girls and five boys were taken by the Department of Children and Family Services and it has not been released if they will return to their parents or if they will be given to other relatives for the time being. None were injured or required medical attention.
