Gang Members Arrested Fighting with the Police

In Summit three alleged gang members were arrested after one of the individuals fought with police officers. The police recovered 12 grams of heroin and 8 grams of cocaine. The arrest occurred as the police were on routine patrol and smelled marijuana as they drove passed a parked car located outside of Wharton Elementary School.

Sheriff's deputies and Summit police were patrolling near the Wharton Elementary School last week when they smelled marijuana as they passed a parked car, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

On individual was arrested as he got out of the car, the police said, but the other occupant, tried to flee and then began fighting with the officers, according to the sheriff's office. The police used pepper spray to subdue and handcuff one of the individuals, described as 6-foot-6 and weighing 330 pounds.

During the scuffle, another individual came out of a nearby house and, with a hand placed under his shirt, told the officers "I'll kill you" if they didn't let the two go, the sheriff's office said. "When police drew their weapons and ordered him to the ground, he kept his hand hidden and told police 'shoot me,' " the police said. "The individual then began inciting other individuals in nearby houses to come out and a large group then began gathering near the two officers. Officers approached and he attempted to flee, but was detained and, after a brief struggle, taken into custody."

The individual arrested with the narcotics was charged with a class X felony which is punishable by 6-30 years in prison. The other individuals were charged with resisting arrest which is a class A misdemeanor.
