Police Infiltrate Drug Ring after Lengthy Investigation
After a year of tracking a reported drug ring, Chicago police and federal agents were able to infiltrate to arrest 38 people.
The drug ring, based out of Chicago, was run by dozens of individuals, just 38 of which were named in sealed and unsealed criminal complaints this week. They now face various possession charges, mostly possession of narcotics, that could land them anywhere from ten years to life in prison if convicted.
Working undercover and using wiretaps, officers tracked over 61 pounds of heroin being tracked into and out of the Chicago area. When the officers and federal agents swarmed in, they were able to recover 15 pounds of cocaine and 33 pounds of heroin. In addition, they seized two guns, seven cars and $1 million cash. Officers are still searching for seven more individuals, three of whom live in Cincinnati while four others live in Chicago.
