Judge Rules Iraq Protesters Can Sue Chicago
Just a few days before the anniversary of the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to the Huffington Post, a judge ruled that a group of protesters would be allowed to file a lawsuit against the city of Chicago for wrongfully arresting more than 900 people in an anti-war protest.
Judge Richard Posner overturned a previous decision by a lower court stating that the ruling in favor of the city was "erroneous." Eight years after the mass arrests following an impromptu rally against the war, the group of protesters is seeking to sue the city of Chicago for the wrongful arrests.
City policy states that even sudden gatherings have to have sought a permit two days in advance. In many cases, city officials and police officers will allow protests to occur, as protesting rapidly changing events is not something that can always be prepared for in advance.
