Girl Escapes Kidnapper

A 17-year-old girl was standing at a West Side bus stop Monday morning when a man inside a purple van allegedly abducted her and later held her inside a garage, law enforcement said.

The van approached the girl on the curb in the 300 block of North Kedzie Avenue about 7:20 a.m. Monday, according to a Community Alert issued by Harrison Area law enforcement. The man inside the van then exited it and forced the girl into the vehicle. The teen was then taken to a garage and left there; she was later able to escape, according to the alert.

The van is purple with gray patches of body repair putty on the passenger side.

The suspect is between the ages of 30 and 40, stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. He is bald and was wearing dark clothing, according to the alert.
