A 24 year old woman was charged with shooting an ex-roommate in Zion after an argument broke out between them over a previous theft at their home, officers said today.
The shooting happened Sunday at about 3:53 p.m. on the 2700 block of Hebron Avenue, according to officers. Law enforcement responded after a person called officers about the shooting and they found a 21-year-old woman squatting next to a parked car with a single gunshot wound to her abdomen, officers said in a statement.
The victim lived with the alleged shooter for a few weeks and had recently moved out, officers said. The victim was at the home after receiving a text message telling summoning her to the home to remove property from the home, officers said.
After the victim showed up, the woman and the alleged shooter argued over a theft that had occurred in the home weeks earlier. The two began arguing on the sidewalk outside the home when the alleged shooter went into the home, retrieved a handgun and the shot the victim in the lower stomach, officers said.
The alleged shooter turned walked into the lobby of the Zion police station and turned herself in. She allegedly confessed to the shooting after questioning by officers. The handgun used in the shooting was recovered.
She was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a
weapon, both are felonies, officers said.
She is being held in the Zion jail and is expected to have a bond hearing later today.
