A Northwest Side man admitted to law enforcement that he shook his 3 month old daughter fatally injuring her, after he bumped her head against a wall twice and she would not stop crying, officers said today. He was at his home, carrying his daughter from the attic downstairs, and hit the baby's head against the wall twice, Assistant state's attorney Jaime Santini told Criminal Court Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil, in a midday bond hearing. The baby began crying, and he then shook her until she stopped crying. He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail today after being charged with killing his daughter.
He and the infant's mother had brought the girl Resurrection Medical Center on Monday, and she was transferred toChildren's Memorial Hospital after they said the baby girl was having trouble breathing, according to police reports.
At Children's Memorial after she was transferred, doctors concluded the baby had factures to the clavicle, multiple old and new rib fractures, bleeding in her retinas and bleeding in her brain in two areas, according to police reports.
The baby died the next day, and the death was ruled a child abuse homicide by the Cook County medical examiner's office. The medical examiner's office found that the baby had suffered 14 rib fractures, three of them recently.
After the individual was arrested, he admitted to hitting his daughters head against the way and shaking her, an officer said. He told officers he was angry about money.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services opened an investigation after receiving abuse allegations against the parents.
As soon as you are arrested, ask for a Chicago criminal defense attorney. If you do not have an attorney, the state will appoint one to you, so it is important to either specifically request an accomplished lawyer you can trust, such as one at
Acosta, Batovski & Schmiege, or ask a friend or family member to find one for you.
