Cook County jury today convicted a 25 year old woman of first degree murder in the 2009 slaying of a well-known candy shop owner in the Humboldt Park neighborhood after he had evicted her from an apartment building he owned because of drug and gang activity.
The four day trial was attended by dozens of the victims’ family and friends, including six of his eight siblings. She faces 20 to 60 years in prison for murder charges. She is to be sentenced in December. Her co-defendants pleaded guilty to their roles and were sentenced to 22 and 47 years in prison.
In videotaped interviews, one of co-defendants told law enforcement that she saw the alleged killer run out of the store shortly after the shooting, and the other co-defendant told officers the alleged killer had been in on the plan from the beginning and had fired the shot.
