Man Charged in Car Chase

A Northwest Side man was issued numerous felony charges and traffic citations in connection with a car chase Sunday that ended when the car the man was driving crashed in the Lakeview neighborhood, officials said.

A car chase this past Sunday resulted in numerous felony charges and traffic situations for a 21 year old man who crashed in the Lakeview neighborhood.

The 21 year old individual from the Belmont Gardens neighborhood was issued felony charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated fleeing from law enforcement officers. Additional to those charges he also had traffic citations that include running 10 stop signs and red lights, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and damaging city property. According to officials, he was held in court todayon $250,000 bail.

The individual arrested was driving the blue Honda Civic that was the subject of the chase early Sunday, officers said. The incident began about 4 a.m. with an altercation between two parties at a nightclub in the 1500 block of North Fremont Avenue in the Goose Island neighborhood. Perez said it was unclear if the altercation happened inside or outside the nightclub and what the altercation was about.

According to the officers, one group left the area but returned in the Civic. The individual was driving the vehicle and that he began firing a gun at people in the street. No one was struck by gunfire, but police heard the gunshots and responded to the scene. Witnesses pointed out the car as it was fleeing, and the law enforcement gave chase.

The car crashed into a pole at Belmont and Sheffield avenues in Lakeview, and the car's occupants ran from the vehicle, attempting to flee from police. Police soon arrested the 21 year old individual and the two women.

The two women both face misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct. The women did not appear in bond court today.
