Officers received a tip Tuesday that suspicious packages were delivered to a freight yard in Wheeling, and after drug dogs indicated there was marijuana inside, officers obtained a search warrant and secured the delivery.
A man of Inglewood, Ca., claimed the packages at the freight yard and was taken into custody, Wheeling officers said in a news release. He was charged with delivery of cannabis, possession of cannabis more than 5,000 grams, and cannabis trafficking. Law enforcement officers said the 1,000 pounds of pot, wrapped in 45 sealed bricks, has a potential street value of $6 million to $8 million.
Bail was set at $250,000 today for the California man, and his next court date was set for Oct. 6 at 1:30 p.m. in room 108 of the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
