Woman Shot last month in Oak Forest Dies

One of two women shot allegedly by the same man in the south suburbs late last month has died, authorities said this morning.

A 28 year old woman from Hazel Crest, died at Advocate Christ Hospital at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

One man has already been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery in her shooting. Those charges now will be upgraded.

Oak Forest law enforcement said the 28 year old woman was found shot about 1:35 a.m. Aug. 26 outside the Terrace Motel in the 15300 block of Cicero Avenue. About three hours later, officers say he shot another woman in Markham.

Authorities identified the 28 year old woman as the alleged shooter's girlfriend at the time and the Markham woman as an ex-girlfriend. He is being held on a combined $5 million bail for both shootings.

After the shootings, the shooter became the target of a regional manhunt, and he was arrested later in the day in Lansing.

The gunman has been convicted four times on weapons offenses and five times on drug charges. He was released on parole May 16 after serving two years of a four-year sentence on a gun conviction.
