Joliet Teens in Custody After Posting Sex Tape to Twitter

Four teens from Joliet are in custody and facing child pornography charges after they taped themselves having sex, and one of the teens decided to post the 10-minute video to Twitter, according to authorities.

On Monday, the foursome, a 15-year-old girl, and three boys ages 14, 15 and 16 appeared in juvenile court. Charles Pelkie, the spokesman for the Will County state's attorney's office said the teens were remanded to juvenile custody.

All of the teens are students at Joliet Central High School, they shall remain in custody until their court hearing on April 13, said Pelkie.

If the teens are convicted of the charge, their sentencing ranges from probation to confinement in the juvenile justice system until they reach 21. Pelkie said that the teens are also facing the possibility of registering as sex offenders.

Deputy Chief Al Roechner of the Joliet Police said that on March 25, a parent of one of the teens contacted the police and told them about the video. The teens were arrested two days later, when they arrived at school on Friday, Roechner said.

The authorities won't say which student posted the video to Twitter, however, the video was taken down as soon as the police were made aware of its existence.
