Theo Epstein's Stalker Proven Mentally Ill

A woman who has been accused of stalking the Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein was proven mentally ill earlier today. She has been told that she can leave the county and return to Boston for mental treatments while her case is pending. The woman with the initials K.K. has an unhealthy obsession with baseball, and was charged with two felony counts of stalking when she flew to Chicago to look for Epstein at his home and at Wrigley Field. She had previously been warned to stay away from Epstein when he was the general manager of the Red Sox.
While her stalking is not permissible, family members argue that K.K. does not have the capacity to take care of herself. Her defense says that she violated her restraining order without any knowledge that there would be ramifications. She was previously given an order for antipsychotic medications when she was accused of stalking Epstein, and has been permitted to return to Boston to spend her time in a mental hospital. K.K. will be required to live with her sister and brother-in-law if she is released from the psychotic ward, and will also be fitted with an electronic monitoring device to track her movements. She has also been issued a continued restraining order against Epstein and his family. The 44-year-old woman is under the guardianship of her father and sister.
According to The Chicago Tribune, K.K. is a Harvard-educated former librarian. She was arrested for stalking but released from jail after her brother-in-law posted her $7,500 bond. When brought to court, K.K. came in a Boston Red Sox T-shirt. While the law does not permit
stalking, people who are mentally unfit are often given lesser or no charges for their offense. If the police can prove that the suspect did not have any comprehension that he or she was disobeying the law, it could eliminate jail time and other punishments.
